Boca Raton High School NJROTC Wins National Title
On April 8th, 9th, and 10th, the Bobcat Regiment, from Boca Raton Community High School, traveled to Pensacola Naval Air Station, to compete in the Navy National Academic, Athletic and Drill Competition. The Regiment Placed First Overall in the Nation. The Regiment, led by C/Captain Jake Woods and C/Captain Jennifer Menke, C/Lieutenant Junior Grade Brian Brown, and C/Master Chief Amanda McCarthy rose to the occasion and were instrumental in the team great achievement. The Cadets were pushed to their limits, waking up before 4:30 going to bed at 11:30. The Unit, which won Nationals in 2011, returned this year with the same goal in mind; first in the Nation, and that is what they did. With the help of the instructors, LCDR Bingham, Master Chief Sosa, Senior Chief Core, and Chief Morales, the unit swept the entire competition away, placing first in the three major categories; 1st in Academics, 1st in Athletics, and 1st in Military Drill. Cadets Brian Brown and Amanda McCarthy led the Drill Teams to the highest places they have been. Combined, the two teams are the best in the Nation. Some Cadets were also recognized individually for their performance on the Nationals level. Cadet Jennifer Menke and Cadet Connor Smith tied for Ninth in the Nation in Academics, Cadet Bennett Lax and Marcus Fuller tied for seventh in the Nation in Academics, Cadet Jake Woods with First in the Nation in Academics. Cadet Olivia Stango placed Seventh in the Nation in Push-Ups with 80 and Cadet Miranda O’Belmito placed Second in the Nation in Push-ups with 83. Cadets Alicia Castaneda and Jennifer Menke placed in individual sit ups as well. All the Cadets did an outstanding job competing this week and have deserved the right to be called National Champions. This competition was LCDR Bingham’s final competition for his 22 years as a Senior Naval Science Instructor. The Bobcat Regiment wishes him the best in his retirement.
